There’s a reason TLBs are called the multitaskers of the construction world. Part tractor, part loader, part excavator—these machines can dig, lift, load, and do it all on rugged Ugandan terrain.
Whether you’re watching them scoop out trenches in a road project in Namanve or dig foundations in Gulu, one thing is clear: TLBs are everywhere—and skilled operators are always in demand.
If you’ve ever dreamed of driving one, this is your chance.
At Fern Engineering & Machinery Training, we don’t just show you what buttons to press. We teach you how to operate with confidence. From switching between digging and loading modes to balancing the bucket on a slope, our training prepares you for real job sites in Uganda and beyond.
This course is ideal for job seekers, school leavers, youth tired of “looking for something,” and even working people trying to switch careers. You don’t need prior experience or academic papers. You just need a willingness to learn—and we’ll take care of the rest.
The TLB (Tractor-Loader-Backhoe) is a dynamic and powerful machine that requires well-rounded training. That’s why our course covers three key areas: loader operations, excavator operations, and site safety.
You’ll start with theory—learning the parts of the machine, how the hydraulics work, safety protocols, and how to switch between front and rear operations. Then you’ll move quickly into practice—starting, moving, lifting, digging, trenching, and loading materials into trucks.
Ugandan construction environments can be tough—mud, murram, rain, heat. That’s why we train on actual job-site conditions to prepare you for the real world.
You’ll learn how to assess soil conditions, navigate slopes, dig stable trenches, and operate around other workers safely. We also teach you how to carry out pre- and post-operation inspections and daily maintenance so you avoid accidents and machine damage on the job.
Throughout your time with us, our trainers walk beside you. They demonstrate, guide, correct, and encourage you—until you’re confident, not just competent.
You may be wondering—why choose Fern Engineering & Machinery Training? Simple. Because we train like your future depends on it. Because it does.
We’re not just a training center. We’re a launchpad for people who want to move from dreaming to doing. We combine patient instruction, real equipment, and practical field scenarios to make sure you graduate with more than paper—you graduate with muscle memory, confidence, and a strong sense of control.
We believe in inclusivity. If you’re from upcountry, we provide free, clean accommodation and daily meals, so you don’t have to struggle with transport or food during training. If you’re from outside Uganda, we support you with visa processing at no extra charge. We’ve welcomed students from Kenya, Rwanda, Congo, Burundi, and South Sudan—and we’ll welcome you too.
If English feels too fast or heavy, we break down lessons in Swahili, and we can explain things in simple Luganda to ensure every trainee keeps up. This training is meant for you, regardless of where you come from or how far you went in school.
And we don’t just train and say goodbye. We support you beyond graduation. We offer job connection support, link you with contractors and companies looking for TLB operators, and give you referrals when needed.
Our goal is not just to help you learn, but to help you earn.
And we mean it when we say we take care of the rest. Coming from upcountry? We’ve got you. You’ll stay in our clean dormitories, with free beds and meals for the entire duration of your course. Coming from Kenya, Rwanda, Congo, or South Sudan? Our team offers free visa assistance to get you here stress-free.
Not comfortable with English? No worries. We teach in English, Swahili, and explain everything in basic Luganda to make sure every trainee, regardless of background, understands each step.
When you graduate, you won’t walk out with just a certificate—you’ll walk out with a skill, a sense of pride, and real job support. We actively connect our trainees with contractors, civil engineering firms, and road construction projects looking for skilled TLB operators. This is more than training. It’s your next chapter.
How long is the TLB training course in Uganda?
The full course takes about three to four weeks. We blend theory with practical machine time. In the first week, you’ll focus on familiarization and safety. The next two weeks are hands-on, with increasing difficulty—digging deeper trenches, loading trucks, and switching modes. We also allow extra time for those who need more practice, because your confidence matters to us.
Do I need prior experience to join the TLB course?
No experience is needed. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone switching from another field, our training starts at zero. Our instructors walk with you from day one, helping you learn, correct mistakes, and build skills without fear. All you need is commitment.
Is the certificate recognized by employers?
Yes. Our certificate is well respected in Uganda and across the region. It shows that you’ve been trained practically—not just in theory. It’s issued under Fern Engineering & Machinery Training, includes your course details, dates, and machine trained on, and can be verified on request.
How much is TLB operator training in Uganda?
Training fees for TLB is UGX 1,300,000 and you can pay in two parts, with just 70% needed to start. We sometimes offer bursary discounts or partial scholarships, especially for early applicants. Contact us to find out what’s available this month.
Do you provide job support after training?
Yes. We actively link our graduates to job opportunities with construction companies, road contractors, and private developers. While we don’t guarantee jobs, we do offer referrals, reference letters, and help with job readiness—including how to speak confidently in interviews and present your certificate properly.
Can foreigners train with you? Do you assist with visas?
Yes, we train students from outside Uganda, and we help with visa processing at no cost. You’ll receive an invitation letter and guidance on how to enter legally. Once you arrive, we’ll pick up the training from there—accommodation and meals included.
Do you offer accommodation and meals for students from far districts?
Absolutely. For anyone coming from places like Kasese, Lira, or Mbale—or even further—we offer free, safe accommodation and food. You’ll have a bed, clean water, and hot meals daily. You won’t need to pay for lodging or hustle for lunch—we’ve covered it all.
Do you teach in local languages too?
Yes. We teach in English, but we also explain key concepts in Swahili and Luganda for those who need more support. We believe no one should miss out because of language. Our instructors speak clearly and slow down when needed. You’ll never be left behind.
